In Cherry Tree Class there are children in the Early Years Foundation Stage, as well as a small group of Year 1 children. The EYFS have access to a play based curriculum.
“Play underpins the delivery of all the EYFS. Children must have opportunities to play indoors and outdoors.” (Dfes 2008).
“Play underpins all development and learning for young children. Most children play spontaneously, although some may need adult support, and it is through play that they develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.” (Dfes 2008).
The Year 1 children also have access to this curriculum, but are also challenged further to ensure their specific needs are met and progress is made within the National Curriculum. We enjoy a wide range of learning opportunities and active lessons, as well as enjoying off-site trips and activities.
Emphasis on learning both inside and outside is important. We are fortunate to have many outdoor areas, such as the undercover canopy, climbing frame, large field and small playground.
Cherry Tree Class are taught by Miss Chantelle Penhall, Mrs Sherrill Ellery and Mrs Lisa Armstrong (teaching assistants). We have high aspirations and hopes for your child. We will ensure they love their learning and have fun, that they feel safe at school and reach their full academic potential. We also know how important it is to work in complete partnership with parents and carers; for this reason we strive to have excellent relationships with all our parents and carers.
