Additional Educational Needs

Pupils with additional Needs

At Nanstallon School we pride ourselves on valuing all pupils as individual and being a small school we are well placed to know each child as an individual. We are inclusive and will attempt to meet the additional needs of all children so that we can help them learn and thrive.

Children with Special Educational Needs

We identify children with special educational needs in different ways; often these are apparent on entry and are well known to parents. Sometimes special needs become more apparent as children progress through formal education. Our experienced teachers and support staff are able to identify needs through observation, through looking at data and through discussion with parents and carers.  Our special needs co-ordinator Mrs Pipe will work with parents and staff to put together individualised learning plans that will help those pupils progress.

As a school we have achieved Dyslexia friendly status which means that our practice in all classrooms is geared towards helping dyslexic pupils.

We work with a number of specialist partners to help us provide the best support that we can. This includes:

  • Speech and Language Therapy
  • Dyslexia Support Service
  • Hearing Support Service
  • Social Communication Difficulties Team
  • Medical Professionals
  • Educational Psychologists
