If pupils are to make the most of the opportunity that school offers they need to be in school. Regular attendance is vital. There is a clear link between regular attendance and pupil attainment and progress.

Nanstallon school target is 97% which allows for unforeseen pupil illness. Over the course of the year 97% attendance is the same as attending 184 days out of 190.

The school will not authorise any holiday requests unless ‘exceptional’ circumstances can be demonstrated. Any requests to take children out of school should be put in writing to the headteacher.

Cornwall Council has a clear policy and protocol in place for applying fixed penalty notices and Nanstallon School align its policy and procedure with this.

We know that sometimes pupils are ill and are not well enough to be in school. In that case they should not be at school. Please telephone us on the first day of absence with the reason. At the base of the page is a helpful guide published by Public Health Agency in April 2017 that outlines under what circumstances a child should be kept at home if they are ill.

If a child arrives after registration has closed they will be marked as absent for that session. Registers are taken morning and afternoon.
